Well I expected to hate Windows 8 but I really don't. Some features of the OS are just weird and unnecessary but overall, it's ok. The computer runs the video games I bought it to run and I haven't had any software conflict issues. I'm really liking the hardware so far. Only been a few weeks but all is well so far.

I ordered my second HP computer that I've owned (I also own an HP laptop from 5 years ago) a couple weeks ago. The ETA on the shipment was about 14 days after the order date. I was shocked to see that it was shipped and delivered about a week before the ETA date!! When I opened the box and saw my computer (beautiful machine by the way) I instantly fell in love and started setting everything up. It was a quick and easy installation as expected (about 10 minutes to be exact), and I was up and running!! No extra software installation besides the Norton anti virus was needed. I had purchased a warranty along with the computer and a couple days after the initial set up, the warranty information popped up on the screen saying it was already installed. GREAT!!! Thanks HP!!
I also noticed that the computer was SUPER QUIET!! If it wasn't for the red glowing light on the side (which is my favorite color and I think is awesome), I wouldn't know it was on!! That's saying alot because the room it's in, isn't noisy at all.
Long story short, I've been an EXTREMELY HAPPY customer ever since I received my computer!! I love it and would recommend it to anyone else looking for a great investment!

My only concern/surprise was how different Windows 8 is from previous versions. Not saying its bad, but there was no warning or instruction as to differences in advance of purchase. HP personnel in India will try to increase your expenditure by trying to sell you the Premium installation and other up grades while you are confirming the installation date, should you purchase installation. However the contract installer was excellent.

Appears as an ordinary desk top computer, till you turn it on. Cool looking red lights appear from inside the machine - atop the liquid cooling gizmo, with 'slash' cuts on the front, giving the appearance of 'Pure Energy'........I know, I exaggerate slightly.
Anyway, the I-7 core provides FAST page loading and retrieval from the hard disk ! It definitely IS noticeable. Very quiet, without the typical "hum" that my previous desk top had (also HP).
And I sincerely appreciate all the USB slots, both front and back, and now on the top also (recessed so they're not so obvious). The front USB slots are covered by a sliding door that also covers all the other input slots (mostly camera and video input/output slots.
The ONLY Con I have discovered is the lack of Microsoft's WORD (word processor) - one would assume you now have to additionally PURCHASE THE PROGRAM, but before you do, save yourself some time/$$ and review what is already on the Net (free).

I bought a PC that would be good enough to play Skyrim and then some. This is definitely a "then some" machine. Mind you, I did have a SSD drive put in, but the PC is great. It's not loud, ATX size box, and have 12 USB ports total. Great machine.

First let me qualify my needs in a computer.I am not a "gamer" and so my review will not address that side of this computer.I am a photographer and by default I need a very fast computer to run CS6 (photoshop) and the myriad of plug-ins that are required in the digilal world of photography these days.
As I am performing my final image adjustments a computer needs to be lightning fast. my images are near 25mb and I am adjusting every one of those pixels in a program that is very user friendly. The speed this computer finds and adjusts these pixels is remarkable. It can keep up with vitually no lag time. Having all of the newest video connections helps with my color management system and provides even more joy.
I run three external HD's at 2 tb each and with the internal 2TB of space I am able to access a full two years of very high resolution photographs at the flick of the mouse(or Watcom pen).. This alone has saved me countless hours of precious time I can now spend enjoying my passion of photography instead of being stuck in front of a computer screen.(I'll leave that for others if I can!).
I teamed this computer with two 2511x screens and I run them both at full speed. Again ,such a joy!..
Im summary, even though this is considered a "gaming" platform it is every bit as much of a "image" platform for those of us that need the speed and convienience. As a side note I am now a couple months into Win 8 and am loving the OS. It took a bit to get used to but again ,speed is my biggest concern and the tile driven system is easy and convienent to use. Am totally happy with my decision to buy...dennis

I like the design, its quite, FAST. I bought it with a RAID 5 2Tb and it reboots in less then 10sec Great! It arrived on time well boxed no issues there. I would have given it 5 stars+ if it would not be for a cheap USB keyboard and mouse + that it arrived with non working CD/DVD. Had to spend 1h to get the computer to recognize the drive and it was not until I uninstalled the driver it worked. I would have expected everything to work right out of the box from HP.

I recently purchased the h9-1400t, making only minor tweaks to the basic offering. I increased the memory to 10GB, and I went with a slightly faster i5 processor. This PC is quiet; not silent, but you rarely hear much more than a muted gurgle from the HDD as it spins. The liquid cooling solution makes fan noise almost a memory - of course the video card has a fan, but even it was very quiet and barely audible. I really wanted the liquid cooling because living in AZ, we have lots of very fine dust, and it gets into everything. Summers are also hotter than I will admit to, and we keep the house at 80ish (with ish being somewhere within 5 degrees above 80); so air-cooling isn't quite as effective at protecting the cpu. It runs fast and smooth, and I like the area on top to set things like my backup drive (which can plug in to the USB 3.0 jacks on top). Really nothing negative I can say about the machine.
Switching from Windows Vista (and using Windows 7 at work), the change to Windows 8 is a work in progress, but I think people would find it valuable to know about the Family Safety feature. This is a feature within W8 that allows you to control access to the PC for your kids in a very granular way. You can set curfews, daily time limits, software rating limits, even limit individual apps and programs for each child. Even more valuable is the weekly report the program emails you, showing daily usage, sites visited, any downloads (if you allow them to), etc. It is a real wake-up call for a parent and a great tool to provide freedom to your children but still keep guardrails on. I now worry a lot less about having to "check in" with my children when they are using the PC because I have established the limits, and I can see where they have been anytime I want to check. And if I need to discuss usage with a child, I can show them exactly what my concern is.
Once I get more used to W8, I am sure it will be second nature to me, and will wonder why I liked Windows 7 so much.
I play MMOs a bit, and this thing works great! For the price, this little machine screams. The video card is not the top of the line, but it more than meets my needs and the needs of my children. If you wanted to upgrade anything on this PC, it would be the video card, but it is more than serviceable for all but the hardcore gamers.
I looked around for months before buying this PC, and I couldn't find anything that was close to the specs that was near the price-point. If you have a limited budget, or just don't want to spend a crazy amount of cash for a top-of-the-line gaming machine, I would recommend you seriously consider the h9-1400t, and tweak it to your price and performance.

Not too bad of a system. Still trying to maneuver around with windows 8. Great for gaming. Only two problems I have so far is removing the password protect when coming out of sleep or screen saver mode, And I am running HDMI and the screen res is too low to use the aps. when you change the res higher you get the jittery screen and small icons. If you have XP, Vista, or win7 you can find and tweak things a lot easier than win8. Customer support should be able to help with these issues. Awsome cooling feature. Two more slots to ad more RAM DDR3 . Tv tuner upgrade is not better than the winn tv I had in my vista. will be switching that. Fast starting and running machine.

I have been searching for a gaming PC for the past year, and the new HP ENVY Phoenix line of gaming PCs are the best value for the money--beating out the prices compared to the boutique gaming PC vendors (which two of them are actually located close to my home so I could have avoided their shipping charge by doing a local pickup). After evaluating the prices and features, HP's ENVY Phoenix was the best value for the money--and HP's PCs are all built by default to be very quiet (whereas the boutique PC gaming vendors charge extra for noise suppression add-ons). For the ENVY Phoenix PC I customized, I was able to choose the most powerful single-GPU graphics card, so my HP ENVY Phoenix PC can play all of today's games on ultra setting (like Battlefield 3) with a super-high frame rate. This is the second high-end HP PC that I bought--the last one I bought was back in 2009--the HP Pavilion Elite series (which I was very satisfied with too and is still working in excellent condition)--in fact the ENVY Phoenix PC is even quieter than the Pavilion Elite--probably because the ENVY Phoenix uses liquid cooling so less fan noises. Overall, I am very satisfied with my ENVY Phoenix gaming PC.

Just received this system the other day, believe it or not I replaced an HP Touch Smart 520-1050 with this mainly because the HP TS 520-1050 graphics could not support any heavy gaming. So far I am impressed with this new system. I am a little disappointed that the overall system ranking windows test gives the system a 5.9 but that is due to the drive installed. Everything else is rated at 7.9. Windows 8 seems fine no issues so far just getting used to located control panel etc. I do run it in standard windows mode 90% of the time until I learn Windows 8 better. I will be upgrading and maxing out the memory most likely after the fist of the year. The HP 2311xi monitor I purchased is very nice. I am an HP user for 30 years
