This computer is so fast that it handles multiple monitors, multi-tasking, web browsing, and high quality video streaming simultaneously without even turning on all of its CPUs. I'm looking forward to trying out some 3D games when I have the time. I took advantage of a free upgrade to Windows 8 through DreamSpark, and that makes this computer even faster. The hardware is fully compatible with Windows 8. I had to figure out how to get around some HP driver errors when I tried downloading the Windows 8 drivers from hp.com, but after that everything was great.
My only complaint is that the analog rear audio output doesn't work correctly. When I put the sound in 4-speaker mode, I get normal volume in the front and I can't hear anything in the back unless I put my ear up to the rear speakers. I even switched the wires around to make sure it wasn't a problem with the wires or the receiver, and messed around with all of the software mixer sliders and settings. I decided to switch to the optical output, which only offers 2-speaker sound. This is a real disappointment for me. I can get Dolby Digital and DTS to work when playing a DVD, which is awesome, but the system sound is poorly designed in my opinion. I still give this computer 5 stars because I can always put in a better audio card.

Because I was concentrating on the specific items I wanted, I didn't include some basic hardware features that I should have included and wish were here. What I do have works perfectly.

I opted for the Windos7 version because I don't care much for windos8. This system will not disappoint. with 8gig mem and 750 gig harddrive, what more do you need. Internet surfing is blazing and system is very reliable. I expect nothing less from HP.....

I've been using a Dell for the past few years, still have it but I needed to upgrade to a faster unit with more features. I liked the idea of creating a "custom built" computer but that can also be a disadvange as well. For instance, I forgot to include a firewire link in the system when I ordered it and because I have several external hard drives which connect via firewire so that's a big issue for me.
I like the look of the unit with the slide down panel on the front of the computer that grants access to another four USB plugs, but there's one thing I do not understand design wise. HP has chosen to include additional USB connections as well as audio connections for a head set but for some unknown reason that I cannot figure out, they are placed on the top of the computer aimed at the back of the computer which makes them almost totally useless and certainly impractical when trying to attach a headset. Very very poor design!! It's hard to believe this comes from HP.
I bought this computer as a work unit, yet it came loaded with a bunch of "junk" software which I did not appreciate nor ask for. It took some time to get it off the system. (note to HP here, leave off the junk unless it's asked for, games etc.)
I was also disappointed with the monitor connections as it only includes one VGA output although there is a HDMI output which can be used for an additional monitor.
Overall though it is a good unit, both in looks and performance, except for the crazy configuration of the USB and audio connections at the top of the unit which face backward. Incredibly inappropriate!
I must say though that so far, it is way better than the Dell except for the above mentioned error.

Computer is fast works great but the startup and shutdown were slow and delayed. I'm a movie/photo editor. It does everything in flying colors. Thank you. Just for the price I wish it had the bluray and Bluetooth and the intel i7-3770k Oh and I would like to know if it has intel turbo boost. Shipping was delayed. But Thank you again I love it.

I was excited to be able to still get Windows 7 Pro - there is no firewire port - it has some new style power connectors, none of the old type - the red light is annoying - sometimes the DVD drive is very noisy, but works fine - the fans are pretty quiet - I would recommend this machine

System crashed twice had to restore it. In the process one of my peripherals (Laser Jet 3030) stop functioning at the local level and remote level through the Home network. It was a very trying experience trying to get to the proper department. I had to pay twice for the service to receive instructions and be kept running. The printer driver is obsolete and needs updating for local and remote use..

I would have given this computer 5 stars but the quick set-up guide and small booklet that came in the box are not to helpful in setting up the computer. After set up I am very pleased with the speed and operation of this computer. Be prepared to buy an additional cabel if you are hooking it up to an older monitor.

This is a replacement for same computer I returned for loud noise and vibration. This one has no vibration noise, but is still load. Believe it is do to how hard drives are mounted to metal frame. Frame is very flimsy, plus with hard drives mounted vertically, this induces noise to the system. Overall rate excellent for features for the price, but at this price and custom configuration, I would not expect the noise problem-particularly after I returned the first one. Obviously HP took no extra care to eliminate the problem that caused my return of the first computer Because of this, will not purchase from HP again.

I was skeptical that this machine’s GPU could handle the type of work that I do, which is to shoot 200 or so high-definition slides that I will use to create, typically, 10-minute HD slide shows. I use one of Adobe’s Elements bundles to accomplish this.
My testing to date has so sufficiently convinced me that this machine can handle the task that I just ordered three more, for a total of four units. The reason that I decided to “gather ye rosebuds while ye may” is that, as another poster noted, Win7 Home Premium and Adobe products work exceedingly well together, and Win7 may not be available much longer.
Although it is true that the machine has no firewire port, it does have, with an available inexpensive upgrade, a total of 8 USB2 ports plus 4 USB3 ports, for a total of 12 ports to handle my peripherals. I’ve found that the top of the machine, which is designed to cradle pocket media drives, can handle 4 of them without obstructing the headphone jack (but four do block the two top USB3 ports, 3 would be no problem).
So, my setup is as follows: 4 external 2.0 pocket media drives, 2 external 3.0 personal media drives, a wired keyboard and a wired mouse, a scanner and a printer. In other words, 10 ports are exactly what I need for what I do. I also opted for one additional internal 1TB drive which I’ve used to clone my 1TB C drive and which contains only the OS and programs.
I’m not a techy, but I suspect that one reason the machine boots in only a few seconds is that I’ve got only 170GB of OS and programs on my C drive.
This machine also has an Optical Audio Out port that is controlled by the Beats sound card. When my neighbor is not at home to complain, I play my slide shows and iTunes via this port, which is connected to an Onkyo 9-speaker Home Theater system. Otherwise, I use my headphones.
There are also the usual 4 audio-out jacks for 2 side, a center and bass speakers. I have a Creative 7.1 (8-speaker) system with its own power supply that is actually designed for games but that also sounds very good when playing one’s iTunes. I paid only about $100 for this system, but I don’t see it on their web site anymore. I do see a 5.1 (6-speaker) system for $80.
I also purchased the optional and inexpensive TV tuner with remote control to go with this machine. I don’t actually use the TV tuner, but I wanted the remote control, which I use with Windows Media Center to play my slide shows.
The video card offers full HDMI plus DVI ports, rather than a mini-HDMI port, which is what all the faster NVIDIA cards in the 600 series offer, so I did not need to buy a mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter.
I did not receive any DVI to VGA adapter with the package, which I thought was included for the price, but I don’t need that, so it’s not an issue for me.
In summary, I do believe that this is a fabulous and very-capable machine at an exceedingly-good price. I’ve read comments by folks who like to build their own machines that they could not possibly build a similar machine for anywhere near HP’s price.
But please do keep in mind that it does not have a firewire port, so it is not suitable for uploading HD video.

I'm very pleased with this computer -- it's fast and seems to be glitch-free. I upgraded the RAM a bit from the basic specs. I'm so glad to have been able to get a Windows 7 machine, since Windows 8 is such a mess. If there are other Windows 7 fans out there, I'd definitely recommend getting this computer.

I customized this unit to last for years and provide everything I could possibly need. Set up was simple, even for a not quite elderly woman, and the unit works very well. I just love it! The only other item I would have liked is a paper instruction book. The 2 USB ports on top are much easier to use than the ones in back, and I may eventually buy a USB hub to sit right on top. Speed and ease of use are both great, and with 2TB, I won't run out of space anytime soon. Thanks HP!

Available custom configurations, Windows 7 OS, financing options, and fast delivery combine to make this an excellent choice. This computer replaces a seven year old unit and the improvement in performance is amazing. Overall, the set up was fast and straight forward even with the minimal instructions. I was so impressed, that I have purchased two PC's with comparable configuration, both directly from HP.
There is, however, one irritant: software was out of date and required extensive updating. Windows 7 required 77 "important" updates (434.6 MB). Norton indicated last update 396 days prior and required a 193.87 MB update. With a high-speed DSL connection, the downloads required about two hours and the installation/reboot another hour.

I would have given this machine 5 Stars+ except for the rear-facing USB 3.0 ports on the top--a problem if in a computer desk like mine with limited vertical space--had to purchase 3.0 extension cords to make use of these ports. Other than that, the machine is everything you could want in a high-end speedster --AND--got it with Windows 7 Pro instead of that wretched Win8. I am a photographer and and have extensive software that all works flawlessly with Win7. My previous HP desktop machine (purchased last Dec 12) came with Win8 and I had numerous problems and none of these manifested with this fast Win7 Pro machine. Win8 machine is now my closet queen spare CPU--I will convert it back to Win7 Pro when I get the time.
