This printer model was recommended to me, and I could not be happier with it. I wanted an All-in-One that could print documents and photos, scan (especially direct to email), fax, and copy - all in black and white or color and via WiFi. This printer does it all, and does it very well.
The touch screen is a huge bonus, since you can choose all of your options, including scan to email with the address included, while at the printer, instead of walking back and forth from the printer to a remote computer. I also found that initial set up could all be done at the touch screen, although a setup CD is included as well.
The print, scan, and copy quality is sharp and true to color. (I have not used the fax function yet.) The printer responds and completes jobs quickly. You can set up multiple authorized users and email addresses by using the website, with one primary email address as the default.
The quality of the printer also appears quite good. I ordered this online and had it shipped, and everything arrived in perfect condition.
Overall, I would highly recommend this for anyone wanting a multifunction printer for home, home office, or small business use, and I would purchase it again.

This printer is the first new I have purchased in six years. Oh what a difference. The only feature that I have not used is the fax capabilities, but will be doing so shortly. Copies are sharp, fast print speed, great for doing two-sided copying, easy to use scan feature. Could not be happier.

A year or so ago my Officejet 7210 was showing its age but was still doing a good job. So I looked at an OJ Pro 8500. The reviews we so bad I decided to wait for HP to re-engineer out the problems.
They did a great job with the 8600. It is a very nice upgrade. Much more solid feel that the 7210 and with more features.
I have nothing but Macs and contrary to some reports, the thing sets up and performs flawlessly on Snow Leopard.
NOTE: Never use a supplied software on new hardware. Always go to the manufacters website for the latest download. There is also a special update for Lion as well.
The touchpad is like all the recent ones from HP. Not as forgiving as the iPhone/iPad.
Pros:

I upgraded from an Officejet 6500 that has served me well for years. I wanted a printer that was close to the 6500 in features. The 8600 surpassed my expectations in everything it does. Some reviews say that the 8600 went through the included ink quickly. I am still using my included ink with plenty of ink remaining on all cartridges. I do a tremendous amount of scanning of photos for slideshows. I love the 14" scanner bed for that purpose. I can scan more photos at once. This is an amazing printer and I highly recommend it.

I like this printer. It is easy to use. It has great network connectiveity. I have it hardwired to our network, and it is visible to all our devices. it works with our Windows XP as well as our new Windows 8 machine. I love being able to print on two sides of the paper automatically. I have scanned many documents and the interface is easy to use. Setup was easy. I have not used the eprint function, but I look forward to using it to print from off-site places.

After all the online research, it lead me to HP. I have used their products before and been pleased, so I went with it. After finding a model I thought would do the job, I contacted customer service with a few "business function" questions, they not only answered those questions, but called my attention to this model which was a HUGE step up and about the cost of lunch more... when I got a discount on the warrenty, that made the final price even better! It arrived on my door step within the promised few days, was set up in about ten minutes and has been working steadily and smoothly ever since. I would highly reccomend this product... for both the tech savvy and the not so much like me.

For small business, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printers are the ones to beat. We have one for the main office and one we use when we must travel and set up a satellite office. It takes less than 15 minutes, straight out of the box, to set up, connect to a wireless network and start printing, scanning, faxing, or copying. I recommend purchasing the HP Care Package. The service is excellent and if the printer needs replaced, they provide a new one the next business day with instructions how to return the replaced printer free of charge. We always get all our inks from HP. We have priced the inks at various sources and have found that HP pricing is very competitive, plus they deliver right to your door, often the next day with free shipping. You just can't beat that for convenience!

The Printer is HORRIBLE if you print envelopes frequently, Your forced to either buy an additional tray just for envelopes which raises the height of the machine and the cost, or take out the paper from the paper tray and then place in your envelope(s), print them, then replace your 8.5x11 paper. Probably not a big deal if you rarely print envelopes. ...... I believe it prints fast and in good quality otherwise, but for me envelopes are essential

I had a Office Pro 8500 that had too many copies in it's history. I ordered a Office Pro 8600 Plus and have been impressed. The unit is smaller, and quieter yet is faster making copies. The lid over the scanner appears to be a little flexible, but has not been an issue. If your older printer is having issues, you will be glad you upgraded to a new Office Pro 8600 Plus

I was faced with a massive job of two-sided printing on over 3700 sheets (forming over 170 booklets). The HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus performed perfectly. The last page was a clean and neat as the first. This volume of work, though unusual, was produced at a more than acceptable speed. I am a home user with certain organizational obligations, and am extremely well pleased with my purchase of the printer. I recommend it highly!

Upgraded to this after the print heads gave out on my Officejet 8500. Easy setup. All wireless connections as was the 8500. Setup the E-Print capability which didn't work at first but after I restarted the printer it was fine. E-print is nice option for remote printing and cell phone access. Hasn't missed a beat yet. Very nice prints, fast scan and printing. I liked the Twain scanner interface on the 8500 better however - it had alot more options to enhance the scan and the ability to resize the scan window.

What more can I say. I told it yesterday to print a two sided version of my tax return. Went up stairs and there was a nice two sided copy of my tax return. No flipping sheets no muss. We are scanning all our medical records. No single feeding pages it takes them all in. This is a great printer and a great value for home or small business. I'm a virtual employee and have been using smaller printers and boy have I made a mistake. This 8600 takes care of all of my business needs.

Normally I prefer laser-type printers, but the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer has changed my opinion of inkjet printers. It's consumption of ink is the lowest on the market, and its per copy cost is at least 45% less than a color laser. The dual tray capacity gives the user a 400 8-1/2" x 11" sheet reserve, and the automatic duplex printing works seamlessly. The choice of a USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet connection satisfies all personal and small business office needs. The sheet feeder design is just simply superb, and the scanner function works well with the supplied software and with software like Nuance OmniPage 18 Pro. The built-in fax function also works extremely well. I highly recommend the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer for any home and/or small business user, because it has advanced features and low operation costs.

I love the speed and features of the printer. The printer did not come with Windows 8 drivers so I had to download from the HP site. Highly inconvenient especially when I ordered the printer directly from HP. The wireless connection had issues with Windows 8 so I disabled some startup programs and use it with a USB cable. Once finally setup, the all-in-one printer does a terrific job.

I give it one star because this is the 3rd officejet pro I have purchased. (R-40, 8500, 8600). I love the machines in themselves but each one is a great dissapointment in the area of scanning. Document scanning is my main use. If you make the settings low the scans are unusable. If you make the settings higher the document files are incredibly high and cannot be emailed. I have tried every combination of settings and many online cures but still have found nothing satisfactory. With each purchase I hoped that the problem had been corrected because I assumed that HP was aware of the considerable amount of online complaints about it...well the 8600 is no better. Three strikes and you are out! I'm going with another brand.
